A Message from David Whitaker
Today, congressional candidate David Whitaker released the following statement on John Boozman’s exit from the Third Congressional District race:
I welcome the news that John Boozman has left the race for Congress in the Third District. Our campaign has been and will continue to be about the enormous potential of the district, and electing a Congressman who will put the interests of the district first. Our people deserve someone who is in touch with the needs of the entire district—from Harrison to Fort Smith, from Russellville to Rogers—and is able to get the job done to meet those needs.
In this election, the people of Northwest Arkansas have the ability to elect a leader who will put the best interests of hard-working Arkansans—the truck driver in Siloam Springs, the farmer in Madison County, the schoolteacher in Clarksville—ahead of the corporate lobbyists and Wall Street elites.
Whether or not the voters of the Third District agreed with John Boozman’s politics, they recognized that he never really got much done, even on the issues that he cared about. His departure from the congressional race brings us the opportunity to finally face the challenges and seize the opportunities of this young century.
David Whitaker believes that we must put an end to business as usual in Washington. He will use his lifetime of leadership and public service to put the needs, hopes and dreams of Arkansans first. What began in October as a campaign with no money, no staff and only a couple of old desks in the spare room of the Whitaker home has turned into a broad neighbor-to-neighbor campaign of progress for Arkansas. From the very beginning, Whitaker for Congress has been a grassroots campaign, based on a notion as old as the Republic itself—that an ordinary citizen could go to Congress and represent the people in our neighborhoods and towns, and put their needs, hopes and dreams first.
